  
As the author of *ConSeal PC Firewall while at Signal 9, James Grant
had an enduring affection for this product (his first commercial
success) and a sense of obligation to the many loyal fans who had
paid for it, relied on it and recommended it to others.
With the acquisition of Signal 9 in 2000, no feature updates for ConSeal were released. This left the
power users and small companies who had used ConSeal to protect their networks without a well-priced powerful and flexible firewall.
In response to this need, James Grant formed 8Signs in 2001 with
partners Linda Cleminshaw & Joan Chandler, owners of C&C Software who had distributed
ConSeal for Signal 9 in Canada.
In August of 2003 8Signs released the 8Signs Firewall.
